Today is my stop for the Blog Tour of One Girl, One Summer by Isabel Ashdown where Ive a review of her latest book. I was thrilled to be asked by Tracy Fenton from Compulsive Reading in conjunction with who organised this tour to take part along with some other fab book bloggers. Dark secrets cast long shadows...
On a peaceful hilltop campsite in the heat of summer, aprivate plane crash-lands. Several are killed, and many more lives are shattered- including those of the Gale family who own the site. For single parent Cathy Gale, her everyday struggles are eclipsed by the tragedy, as her boy Albie is one of the victims. He hangs onto life, while 18-year-old sister Nell, who was meant to be looking after him, is overcome with guilt.
As DS Ali Samson leads the investigation, locals are scandalised to learn that the amnesiac pilot has plans to stay in the community- and as dark secrets come to light, teenager Nell goes into free-fall. What is it she's so desperate to conceal? And exactly who is the Unknown Pilot?
Well, where do I start with this review!? I didn't just like it, I absolutely LOVED IT. It was brilliant and I CAN'T recommend it enough, it had me gripped from the first few pages right through to the end, there were some great twists and turns too which I definitely wasn't expecting. It has it all from family sagas, secrets, lies, betrayal to a more darker subject matter which was covered and handled with empathy and was well researched. I even had to slow down reading it as I didn't want it to end, the story flowed really well and at a fast pace too and there were parts in the book I could feel my heart rate raising a little so it's definitely not for the fainthearted. This is the second book that I've read by Isabel and I am really looking forward to reading more of Isabel's books and coincidentally I'm currently waiting on Little Sister and Beautiful Liars from my local library and I hope it won't be too long before they come in so I can get to read them.
